Police get that cast off military equipment that is usually in disrepair and always costly to repair/maintain. Frequently it just gets used for cop campouts (circlejerks) in rural areas at taxpayer expense under the guise of training. Lots of departments has lots of atv/utvs and Humvees all unnecessary adult toys. Many times the cops keep the Humvees on inventory for a few years then sell them at public auction. Seems like fraud to me but I assume it's standard procedure.

Officers and public employees are required to be bonded. If a large enough claim or enough claims are made and caused to be paid then the officer loses his bond and can no longer be employed.
Contact the Risk Management department the agency of the officer or public employee whom you wish to file a claim on and tell them you want the name of their bonding company who bonds their officers and employees. The agency can lose their own bond if they do not give you this information. Contact the bonding company and tell them you wish to file a claim. This claim is important before filing a suit or the suit can be dismissed for, "failure to exhaust administrative remedies".

It probably cost that sheriffs office only transportation and maintenance cost to get the vehicle. They more than likely got it from DLA Dispostion Services. Where all fed property goes to be destroyed or redistributed after the original branch of military or agency is done with it. Things like this will have to returned to DLA after the sheriff is finished with it for DLA to scrap it out and use the money to fund their agency and other items for the military. DLA is really the only DOD agency that makes a “profit” as they are self sustaining agency

Those APC vehicles (civilian "tanks", MRAPs, Bearcats etc) are military surplus. The cities and counties get them for free and can use them for law enforcement purposes with the agreement that the city or county pays to have them maintained and at the ready if the military chooses to commandeer them for domestic purposes…. Scary right?
