Those APC vehicles (civilian "tanks", MRAPs, Bearcats etc) are military surplus. The cities and counties get them for free and can use them for law enforcement purposes with the agreement that the city or county pays to have them maintained and at the ready if the military chooses to commandeer them for domestic purposes…. Scary right?

It probably cost that sheriffs office only transportation and maintenance cost to get the vehicle. They more than likely got it from DLA Dispostion Services. Where all fed property goes to be destroyed or redistributed after the original branch of military or agency is done with it. Things like this will have to returned to DLA after the sheriff is finished with it for DLA to scrap it out and use the money to fund their agency and other items for the military. DLA is really the only DOD agency that makes a “profit” as they are self sustaining agency
